Learn Art History & Painting Analysis

Are you interested in understanding what paintings mean but don’t know where to start? Start Art! Painting Analysis Workshop will teach you how to read paintings.

Who can join the Workshop?

The Painting Analysis Workshops are designed to teach the basics of painting analysis and art history to art enthusiasts in Gothenburg. The Workshops target absolute beginners to art who have no background knowledge in art history but just pure interest in learning. Each Workshop targets to build a level of knowledge for participants so that they can identify paintings from that period and analyse the content and styles of new paintings.

How is the Workshop conducted?

Every Workshop focuses on a period's characteristics, artists, historical background and famous paintings. The lecturer, Özgün Yilmazok, explains the characteristics of each period or style and analyses famous paintings by showing them on slides. The participants can actively join the lecture by asking questions or responding to the discussions created by the lecturer. All Workshops are conducted in English.

How long does a Workshop take?

Every Workshop, focusing on a certain period, takes 6 lectures of 2 hours each. For 6 weeks in a row, every Wednesday a lecture is held.

How to participate in the Workshop?

Before the next Workshop begins, there will be a Free Introduction Lecture on September 11 in Studiefrämjandet Falken. Anyone can join that Introduction Lecture by filling in the form located in Start Art!’s website below. Introduction Lecture (11 September) is for free. Registration required (see above)
Each Workshop (6 Lectures, total 12 hours) costs 950 SEK. Workshop registrations will start after the Introduction Lecture.
