Game audio production

Game audio production

For anyone interested in Game Audio, from the beginner who wants to start a career in the industry to the advanced producer, sound designer and sound engineer who wants to improve both technically and generally.

Why?

There are a lot of courses everywhere (online especially) about sound design, how to create sounds, how to compose music, how to do the mix, mastering etc. The more courses and lessons you find the more you feel a bit lost.

So basically: a lot of data to process -> a lot of confusion.

It's hard to figure out what you need to know to enter the market, what is the market, what a "pro sounds maker" has to do on a normal day and most of all what you’d really need to know to start your career in game audio or to take your actual career to the next "step".

Goals

This Game Audio Group/Course wants to achieve 2 goals: create a group of people with the same interest to connect them together and at the same time to offer a course about what you need to know to start your career in the Game Audio industry. The lessons are focused on the daily work of a composer and/or a sound designer, how to create sounds, how to test, how to create music and loops, how to collaborate with developers, designers, producers, stakeholders etc. Also how to enter the market, how to promote yourself, how to contact the right people etc.

It's a course for people that want to start a career in Game Audio and people that already work in the field and want to improve their skills.

How the course is organized

This course is divided into 10 lessons, 3 hours each and it’s online.

The course will start from general knowledge about Game Audio, a little bit of history and then we’re gonna start to go a bit deeper with:

The big market, what is that and how does it work?

The different gaming companies.

How to contact a gaming company.

What you need to start your career as a Sound Designer (hardware, software, how to optimize your workflow and your computer, how to record, how to glue sounds in the game, the importance of ambience etc).

What you need to start your career as Game Composer and how to be creative with deadlines.

But also:

Layers in Sound Design

Mix & Mastering for Game Audio

How to deliver and how to test before sending your music/sounds

What you need to know beforehand

You need to have a basic understanding of audio and a general knowledge of modern games. Know what a DAW is (Have experience on a DAW, no need to be specialized in any specific one) and have a general knowledge and experience of games as a gamer.

No specific library is required. It will be possible to download free sounds and free libraries during the course.

It would be better to have a basic understanding of Kontakt

The teacher will share audio and screen during the lessons and what you need is a computer and a pair of headphones.

It’s ok to use Windows and/or Mac especially for the lesson dedicated to how to optimize the machine and your OS.

The teacher will use mostly Logic as DAW but again, no need to know it, every DAW is perfectly fine to be used and with same results.

…and last but not least:

The teacher will alot time in each lesson for any questions and he’ll encourage you to be active during the lessons.

The last 3 lessons will be for you to start composing your game audio mockup following a gameplay and on the last lesson we’ll look at each others mockup. Only the teacher will know who made what, every mockup will be shared together to be evaluated anonymously.

Completing the mockup for the course is not mandatory.

About the teacher

This course is held by a professional in Game Audio who has been working for years as an Audio Manager and Music Director in a video game company based in Stockholm.
